چکیده
Conclusion. FFPE tissue analysis by multigene targeted PCR assays expands the opportunities for rapid identification of Mycobacterium species, allows differentiation of MTBC from NTM, and helps to detect co-infections. Using multigene targeted PCRs in combination with histopathology and IHC improve the accuracy of diagnosis, particularly in the presence of commensal and environmental pathogens. Disclosures. Costs and cost-effectiveness of four treatment regimens for latent tuberculosis infection.
RATIONALE Isoniazid given daily for 9 months is the standard treatment for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), but its effectiveness is limited by poor completion rates. Shorter course regimens and regimens using directly observed therapy result in improved adherence but have higher upfront costs. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the costs and cost-effectiveness of regimens for the treatment of LTBI....

RATIONALE Rifapentine-based regimens for treating latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) are being considered for future clinical trials, but even if they prove effective, high drug costs may limit their economic viability. OBJECTIVES To inform clinical trial design by estimating the potential costs and effectiveness of rifapentine-based regimens for treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (...
متن کاملTreatment completion for latent tuberculosis infection: a retrospective cohort study comparing 9 months of isoniazid, 4 months of rifampin and 3 months of isoniazid and rifapentine
BACKGROUND The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a new regimen for treatment of latent tuberculosis (three months of weekly isoniazid and rifapentine) in late 2011. While completion rates of this regimen were reported to be higher than nine months of isoniazid, little is known about the completion rates of three months of isoniazid and rifapentine compared to nin...
متن کاملRecommendations for use of an isoniazid-rifapentine regimen with direct observation to treat latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.
Preventing tuberculosis (TB) by treating latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a cornerstone of the U.S. strategy for TB elimination. Three randomized controlled trials have shown that a new combination regimen of isoniazid (INH) and rifapentine (RPT) administered weekly for 12 weeks as directly observed therapy (DOT) is as effective for preventing TB as other regimens and is mo...
متن کاملRifapentine for latent tuberculosis infection treatment in the general population and human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients: summary of evidence.
Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-coinfection are challenges in the control of tuberculosis transmission. We aimed to assess and summarize evidence available in the literature regarding the treatment of LTBI in both the general and HIV-positive population, in order to support decision making by the Brazilian Tuberculosis Control Program for LTBI chemopr...
